@lindseyinprocess: There are so many things people said to me after my dad died. Most of them were well-intentioned. They wanted to comfort me, to make sense of something that simply didn’t make sense. But the words that stayed with me the most weren’t a piece of advice or a silver lining. They were simply: “I can’t imagine what that must feel like.” That sentence didn’t try to fix my grief. It didn’t tell me everything happens for a reason. It didn’t remind me that he’s in a better place. It didn’t suggest I should focus on the good memories or be grateful for the time we had. It just acknowledged the reality that what I was living through was unimaginably painful. Looking back, I realize that’s what I needed most. Not solutions. Not explanations. Not perspective. Just someone willing to sit beside the pain instead of trying to make it disappear. Grief isn’t a problem to solve. It’s love with nowhere to go. It’s learning how to carry an absence that changes every part of your life. If someone you love is grieving, don’t worry so much about finding the “right” words. Your presence matters more than your perfection. Sometimes the most healing thing you can offer is to let someone know they don’t have to carry their pain alone. “I can’t imagine what that must feel like.” “I’m so sorry.” “I’m here.” “I see your pain.” Those simple words can mean more than you’ll ever know. If you’re grieving today, I hope you know this: your pain doesn’t need to be justified, explained, or minimized. It deserves to be witnessed with compassion. ❤️ If this resonated with you, share it with someone who may need the reminder that being present is often the greatest gift we can give. #griefjourney #griefsupport #imissmydad #grieftok

This, 💯. People tried to say when my parents died, they understood and everything would be fine and things happen for a reason and they weren't in pain..blah blah blah. But no one simply acknowledged my pain, and let me feel it. it's like everyone wants to ignore it. 2yrs later and I still feel i can't talk to anyone or express anything about it in front of people due to it being dismissed.

That would have been the perfect thing to hear. Hearing “I’m sorry for your lose” only hurt more. No one could ever understand my loss. 💜🦋

a couple of my friends said the same thing to me when my brother died. I said "I hope you never do"

Losing my dad at 22 changed me because Vietnam made him cold and distant most days. He also didn’t get to see me grow into the man I was supposed to be. Losing my mom? That absolutely destroyed me because she was my rock. My shining beacon when my life was so stormy. It’s been 24 years since that day and it still affects me. I’m so sorry for your loss sweetie. I hope one day you can find some type of closure 💜

This is beautiful. No one said any comforting words to me when my dad passed away. He was a remarkable man.
