I have an easy hack that doesn’t change the look of the pants - Make two small holes at the waistline on the inside of the pants close to the front buttons (think of sweatpants drawstrings) but don’t go all the way through. Feed in a thin fabric rope (I use shoe laces) around it that way you can tighten it in the inside (this works best with pants that are 2-3 sizes bigger if you want to completely avoid the annoying pleats)
