I made a list too. Nothing extreme- VERY normal expectations (that I also meet): goes to church, is respectful, intelligent/literate and has a degree, financially responsible, has a career and retirement investments, respectful family, no children, hasn’t cheated before, doesn’t have an anger or alcohol problem, works out and eats healthy and has good hygiene, gets me flowers. That was it and have not met one single man that meets even half the list in the past 2.5 years

I felt this! The couple times I have dated since separation/divorce, I have actually learned so much! Even when they kinda did me dirty and walked away, I still gained great experiences and its a teaching moment every single time. It has helped me set a standard for sure!

if only it were this simple - in so many things, we can say, “if she/he wanted to, they would,” but many times people are doing the best they can and yet are flawed, make mistakes, and don’t always show up as the best versions of themselves, regardless of what they might want to do given all the tools, opportunities, and circumstances to make that more viable

Yep. My boyfriend has put my ex to shame. I had forgotten what it was like to have someone adore me and go out of his way to care for me and make life easier for me. It really shows how I had accepted the bare minimum before!

I don't know. after my first divorce my (current) husband was phenomenal. you could find me in every space gushing about how phenomenal he was. how much he adored me. how he stepped up in ways I never expected. that went on for 8 years and then I came home and he asked for a divorce out of nowhere. no previous conversations. no signs. that was last October. I've been trying to figure out what happened and all he says is he doesn't love me anymore and he doesn't have a reason. and it's this that makes me hesitant to ever trust another living soul.
