I’ve just finished my second year at Oxford and during a levels I had stress induced hearing loss - remember to look after yourself. I only did three a levels and it was not a particularly strenuous combination and I got and made my ppe offer. Look after yourself x

Kate just remember you gotta take time for yourself. You need to remember that social media, school, and studying aren’t anywhere near as important as your health and especially something like this. I really hope you come to terms with the information you got today. The universe clearly saw you’re just too damn good and decided to nerf you haha but all jokes aside rest up and just enjoy yourself!

Hearing aid technology is becoming amazing. Your uni will have a T loop and should use a microphone for lectures that you can connect to. You can also get a mic that links to it directly. You can Bluetooth your TV or anything really to them so no need for AirPods. It doesn’t fix things , but I guess it can make things a little less sucky?

I have hearing loss in both ears and have worn hearing aids in both ears since i was 9. I also got diagnosed with a long term health condition this time last year, right at the end of year 12 so the same time for you. If you have any questions don’t hesitate to reach out x (also the complaints about hearing tests is SO VALID!!) xx

i was diagnosed with a hearing loss and given hearing aids this year and although it’s an adjustment they are really helpful and have improved things massively for me! i know you are applying for medicine and i’m also a med student and just wanted to say that it is beyond possible to succeed at medicine with a hearing loss. you can apply to dsa for support with equipment such as a bluetooth stethoscope and tech to help in lectures and for studying and although it’s not ideal i know you will get through this. sorry it was such a sudden change for you and I hope you get all the support you deserve <3

Hey !! I had a low key similar experience. Lost most my hearing kind of quickly at 16. I still however, got into Cambridge (although didn’t go) and completed 2x degrees. I know work as a physio. I’m also a ballroom dancer and still dance and complete. I learnt BSL and I’m now involved in the deaf community and play for a mixed deaf/hearing rugby team. I know it sucks but if your hearing loss sticks around, then welcome to the Deaf community 🫶🏼🤟🏼
