Gen❌ Perspective :
It started with higher gas prices. Then came TPMS, start-stop, direct injection, CVT transmissions, AGM batteries, low rolling resistance tires, cylinder deactivation, and more. Add up all the fuel these systems save, then compare it to the cost of replacing just one of them after the warranty expires. The savings are small. The repair bills are huge. Are we really saving money, or just shifting the cost from the gas pump to the repair shop?

A big cost you missed is the California government will need to fund and hire for a commission to manage this. At least one “manager” at probably $150,000 per year, several additional CA employees for enforcement, ie check tire centers for compliance, and have someone to check every manufacturer has tires that comply. I bet this is a minimum of a hundred million budget of tax dollars. Our CA taxes will have to increase.
