I don't get how people can't understand why he's upset. It's so plain and simple. It's not like Joffrey can be his heir. He is now Rhaenyra's heir (and he needs to stay the hell away from Syrax). And her and Daemon's children got nothing to do with Corlys. He's just asking Rhaenyra for the same support and favor that he had been giving her.

I also think people are reading the scene as if Corlys is denouncing his “grandchildren”,, he’s calling Rhaenyra a hypocrite by pointing out the legitimacy of her heirs. He’s not saying he doesn’t love them, he’s not saying they’re not her heirs. He’s saying “if your bastards can be your rightful heirs then why can’t mine?” He’s literally just pointing out the hypocrisy of her attitude

I guess people are mad at his reaction because they take Rhaenyra's whole "not now. I have so much on my plate, and it's not a good look for me to legitimize bastards when my heir is one." point seriously. I actually genuinely don't know if she's being honest about how she'll legitimize them soon but not now. TBH it just seems Rhaenyra is so focused on getting back the throne that she doesn't know what to do afterwards when she does become Queen.

I think you make a really good point. I think that his anger over the situation is very understandable because the situation around their children is pretty much the same. However, I also feel that the timing of the request was interesting. He kind of put her on the spot and confessed that they were his sons which she had no idea, and then immediately asked to legitimize them at dinner in front of them so that she couldn’t say no. I just find the timing of all of that very interesting.

and Joffery is now the heir to the throne so Corlys doesn't have an heir anymore he is essentially the last of his line right now , he has four choices 2 of them are bastards and the other 2 are Rhaena and Baela one already turned him down and no one knows where Rhaena is
