”What are you giving to the audience” uhhh… music? shouldn’t selling point of music be the music, not some gimmicky visual hook to get the attention of someone who’s already been deprived of dopamine by endless scrolling for a quick hit of good feeling through visuals? How is YOU performing YOUR music selfish compared to putting hours upon hours into some visual which isn’t the part that should attract the audience in the first place? Infinite scrolling totally fucked everyone in the worst way possible.

It’s not the same thing… you basically have to become a professional marketer as well as skilled artist BEFORE getting support. And social media is a whole other beast - zero attention spans and extreme saturation. All while barely making a cent off of streams. It’s just not right.

I grew up with MuchMusic and the radio. A song would come on, and you just enjoyed it. I didn't know anything about the artist, and I didn't want to I didn't need to know what their favorite cereal was, the music alone was enough. Social media makes us believe that's what people actually want, but if you really ask yourself, 'How much do I actually care about their personal life?' you might be surprised.
