Thats not everywhere. Trump stopped that federally in 2017. Some states, like California, enacted their own laws

Oh babes. It can be significantly more than $900. It’s based on your adjusted gross income (I want to say 2.5%). The year my husband and I got married they wanted to charge us a fee of $4400 for his “lapse”. There are ways you can waive it though. You have to apply for an exemption. For us, we showed that he was terminated the day he put in his two week notice and that we were attempting to get him insurance while he was out of work. We even got married so he could be insured. But because we got married on the 19th (we added him to insurance in the 20th) but his benefits didn’t start until the first of the month, we were outside the 90 window. We applied for the waiver and were granted it because we weren’t willfully uninsured. Try for the waiver. Worst thing they can tell you is no.
