another tip for people that do sports photography or any other photography where at a location for a longer time and the conditions change alot, use AutoISO and set it to expose for highlights. You keep full control over your shutterspeed and aperture while your camera takes care of your ISO, if you set it to highlight you will almost never have extremely blown out highlights (depending on what youre shooting), yes everything else will be slightly underexposed but fixing an image in post thats a little too dark is easier than fixing blown out highlights.
Take this shot for example, overcast and rainy so youd obviously lower your shutterspeed and keep your aperture wide open for the most light, and now theres a car coming with its bright lights on, boom your photo is ruined due to it being completely overexposed, AutoISO will save you (yes theres still one light a little blown out but thats because its basically pointing directly at me)

Do you often shoot with spot metering? Or do you change this setting all the time depending on what you’re shooting

This won't work when you're shooting in full manual or does this still matter??

Is this advice only for auto mode? If I have my camera on manual mode and use spot metering my camera isn’t going to balance the lighting for me right? Sorry if that sounds dumb I’m not the most techy person
