If Sierra Leone cannot host our AFCON and World Cup qualifiers in Freetown, at our own national stadium, then it is hard to believe that this government truly understands the hopes and struggles of its people. Our people are already carrying unbearable burdens—skyrocketing prices, unemployment, insecurity, relentless inflation, and constant fuel price increases. For 90 minutes, football has the power to unite us, restore hope, and make us forget our hardships, even if only for a little while. That is what home matches mean to a nation. Yet after more than three years, with grant funding available, our national stadium is still not ready. If we cannot complete something as symbolic and important as our own stadium, what hope is there for the bigger challenges facing this country? This is no longer just about football. It is about national pride, leadership, and keeping promises. It is about giving Sierra Leoneans something to believe in. And if, after all this time, we are still unable to play at home, then many of us will begin to wonder whether either of the two major political parties truly has the vision and commitment to move this nation forward. Sierra Leone deserves leaders who deliver results—not excuses. Our people have waited long enough.
