Hearing people talk about the issue between China and Taiwan has always been interesting to me. I genuinely don’t have a “side” in this, because I understand the claims of both countries. I think the best solution for both the Chinese people and the Taiwanese people would be to allow Taiwan to exist independently, but have agreements in place for like travel and trade between them, sorta like how the UK is with the EU. It’s like you said, ethnically, Taiwan and China are both Han countries, and they both speak Mandarin. But also, like you said, it’s a cultural difference. China’s system works well for their specific people. Their system has evolved from a brutal dictatorship into a system that, while is still authoritarian, gives its people more freedoms economically and socially than ever before in their society under the old Republican or imperial governments. Likewise, the Taiwanese democratic system works well for THEIR people, too. It too has evolved from a dictatorship, but went the route of free and open elections.
