One of my favourite ways to go to sleep is to imagine I can go back in time and give people solutions to problems they had. The satisfaction I will have laying in bed tonight trying to invent ways to have a sustainable light source that does not involve candles or electricity.

hi, art historian here (don't worry, we also study history besides the arts). candles were very important bc you could continue working after dark. now imagine how important that was for guild craftsmen: it meant that they could work longer and complete more orders. if you read through the documents that detailed the rules of a guild, sometimes you could be rewarded with candles, while other times punishments implied their confiscation. crazy times indeed.
