@tedtoks: Control is an illusion, says workplace culture expert Jessica Kriegel — the only thing you can control is the way that you show up. In her TED Talk, she explains why leaders who have trouble letting go end up holding their teams back — and shows how focusing on creating the right experiences can drive extraordinary results. This comment section is polarized. Either in favor or diametrically opposed. Those who are in favor get it and understand this is the only way for growth. Those who are opposed want this handed to them on a silver platter without having to do the work. The work is this: in a managerial setting the ultimate goal is to improve the outcome of the business ethos. (ex Food: Get good food out accurately, hot, quickly) It breaks down easily into problem solving from there. As a manager, serving the employees shows up as helping them problem solve to do their part of the whole to the best of their ability. Some employees need more of a helping hand, but those might be the ones who become the greatest asset. Will some not be a good fit? Absolutely. But as a manager you still serve that exiting employee by giving them a reason why they’re not a good fit at this time. Granted, this requires a maturity level many people in managerial positions do not have. It requires a sacrifice of pride and development of humility.

This monologue has no focus. Didn't make the connection between behavioral change and business outcomes. Just talked around both of them and made the connection without proving it.

If you want to change the belief, you have to set the environment that will facilitate the change.

How do you create an environment by which to change someone's beliefs? That's a big conundrum.

This has been studied and known for my whole career. It used to be called fixed vs growth mindsets. Before that it was theory x vs theory y. Still nothing has changed.

This is a strong point. Leaders may not control every outcome, but they do shape the environment, expectations, and behaviors people experience every day. That is where culture starts to shift.

Changing beliefs and doctrines has always involved changing elites... like what happens in changing political elites in elections between the right and the left...
