There was a video that went viral a few months ago where a pet dog owner tried faking their dog as a “service dog” and the airline didn’t accept their DOT forms. When they didn’t accept it and the owner didn’t successfully fake her dog to get her to fly for free with her dog…..SHE ABANDONED her dog at the airport and GOT ON THE FLIGHT without her dog. A airport worker ended up adopting the dog.

When we went to dinner out one time my old SD sat/tucked underneath me. The patrons next to us had a small pet and it yapped the ENTIRE time. My SD might as well been asleep she was so unbothered. But we couldn’t stay there because the yapping was incessant. Also they had the gall to ask us to move/leave because they were there first!

My dog is still in training and we are working on public manners at the moment. She knows a task (item retrieval, and we are working on cardiac detection) but it is not perfect. What should I do for plane trips? It is something she needs desensitization to because I travel a lot, but I don’t want to upset teams with fully trained dogs (she shows interest in other dogs but understands she needs to leave them alone).

And people doing this made me SO NERVOUS for my first flight with my service dog (this was him on the flight he did amazing (don’t worry he wasn’t in that position the whole flight I moved my bag once the flight started)

The problem with the prosecution of this as a crime is the defense will bring up inconsistent application of the law. A federal judge when faced with a dilemma of a real alleged service dog under ADA we'll look at evidence that the dog is part of a current treatment plan from a licensed medical doctor. If the owner cannot prove it then the case doesn't move forward because it's been determined by the court that the service animal is fake. The FAA does not go after fake service dog owners as a crime because They would have to admit that they're allowing a lot of dogs on planes that are not part of a current treatment plan from a licensed medical doctor which would make a conviction impossible. Analogy: It is hard to convict somebody of stealing a few 5 gallon buckets of sand from a beach to use in making concrete when you let people take sand pales from the beach as an alleged souvenir.

if you want to take your dog with you on flights you rent a kennel and have it get loaded with the luggage. if they panic so much inside make sure they have one of those pills that calm them down. hide the pill in a meatball or a sausage.
