For many teachers, ALICE (Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate) training isn't controversial or surprising anymore. It's just...part of August. Part of back-to-school meetings. Part of setting up your classroom. Part of knowing your exits, your blind spots, your procedures, your emergency bucket, and your plan for situations no teacher ever imagined being trained for when they entered this profession. Most teachers don't talk about it very often because after a while it simply becomes another item on the checklist. But every year there's a new teacher sitting in that training for the first time thinking: "Wait... this is really part of my job?"
