Thank you for this advise. I’m glad I just got my AmEx and will definitely use it to book everything. I had a similar situation with a hotel, except it was roaches and my credit card did nothing for me.

this seems misleading. not all credit cards are created equally. the benefits of an AMEX platinum whatever are amazing because you pay $100s (maybe $800) in annual fees.

Booked a hotel with my Amex back in 2023, showed up to a very lovely sight. Children running in the halls, parents and adults sitting outside their rooms in white plastic lawn chairs. The side door to the hotel being left open. Thought ok, awful, but if it's clean whatever. The room had dead and alive bugs everywhere: cockroaches, earwigs, some others. Showed the front desk, they wouldn't refund me, so I submitted a dispute with Amex on the app. I never even called anyone, I just got my money back and never heard about it again.

We always make big purchases with the CC for this reason. We bought one of those big-ass dog treadmills. They shipped it and it was broken and scratched. He told the merchant and they pretty much said "🤷🏻♀️" so we filed a charge back with the CC. The merchant had 30 days to respond with their own evidence that they weren't in the wrong (they had no evidence because they were very wrong lol). Got the full amount back.
