change the oil every 3000 miles and it'll go forever. VWs are very particular about their VW 50200 or 50500 oil. You're average quicklube place is just gonna slop in there any old 5w40, and then this kind of stuff happens. Your chain stretches fast, the VVT solenoids start wearing, the balance shaft bearings start to wear, and they're not even a wear item. With the right oil they should turn forever.
