I feel like you should put them next to each other both forward facing and then you can just put ur suitcase or whatever else tucked behind them with that extra space, the student and his roommates arent gonna like the whole pulling the drawers all the way out everytime he needs something

My daughter did this last year and it was great. We put the extra cleaning supplies and bedding back there. There was still plenty of room for other things to still go behind it too!
