Let me give you some perspective from the other "fit" side. For 3 yrs, I've spent 4 days a wk, 1.5hrs a session of heavy, intense workouts spending every bit of energy. Like I hardly have the energy to walk home after. All this to lose 25lbs, & put on significant muscle, which meant having a steady diet 80-90% of the time for 3yrs. I'm 6'1 220lbs, have loads of previous injuries/major surgeries to deal with on top of it. Do I look like to myself how much work I've put in? not even close. I thought I'd look better, have no stomach & fat off the problem areas that I don't like. All this to be seen by a stranger who thinks "genetics", "he is naturally that way, I wish it was that easy for me". 90% of the compliments In my life have "genetics" somewhere in there (ironically, even family). You essentially get little credit for looking fit, by the general public. They always think there's a substance to take, secret program, or genetics, bc they never seen you put in the work & wouldn't put in 1/100 to do it. The main point is, that you will never be judged for the work you've put in, bc ppl will always project or discredit you for the way that you look. Nobody will ever see the struggle that you've lived through.

I’ve had the exact same thoughts about my body throughout my weight loss journey. It sounds strange, but try thinking about it this way: people who are naturally slim or have always been fit have often had a lifetime to grow into and become comfortable in their bodies. If you’ve spent most of your life in a bigger body, you simply haven’t had that same head start—and that’s completely okay. You’ll get there too. For example, I spent 20 years in a bigger body, but I’ve only been on my weight loss journey for the last two years. When you look at it that way, it’s pretty incredible how much can change in just two years. Give yourself time—you’re still growing into this new version of yourself

I’m down 85 lbs in a year and have zero perspective on how I look, what I should wear etc. I am thinner than I’ve ever been in my adult life but I go back and forth between feeling great and feeling defeated that I still need to lose another 25-30lbs.

I feel this so much. I’ve lost 100 pounds and my life is so much better but I’m still not thin. I’m so happy but wonder if people that don’t know me think I’m fat. :(

I feel this so much. people that know me tell me I look so good, but I look good for the weight I've lost but I don't actually look good yet. I'm still big. Internally it drives me insane.

Omg yes! I lost 165 pounds and am STILL FAT. it’s exhausting. I am so tired of counting calories, walking, passing up on things I wish I could have, tired of still buying “L” clothes.

Right. I’ve lost 120 pounds and really want a breast lift but I still need to lose at least 55 more to get it and it feels impossible. I feel like I’m always just going to be fat, less fat, but fat.

This is why there’s still a need for fat acceptance in people who are losing weight. Dieting and weight loss can make you judge yourself even more harshly if your main metric is just what you look like. You need to continue rejecting the notion that only thin bodies are acceptable.

I've lost enough that I want to get new clothes, but I would still have a hard time finding cute things to fit easily. I don't want to buy new clothes that fit but still aren't cute. Sucks.

This is so hard! I felt this way even when I got to my “goal weight” of 150. Im 5’7 and went from 300 to 150 and still felt like I looked fat. I didn’t feel good in my own skin until I got the skin removed and that sucks!! Bc I feel like I killed myself to get to the goal weight and then I still didn’t look the way I wanted to and the way others did. I started losing weight in 2017 and didn’t get skin removal until 2026
