This is so important to talk about. I’m a pharm tech and have a SEVERE anaphylactic sulfonamide allergy. I blow up in hives dispensing bactrim and can’t do it. So many folks are falsely labeled with antibiotic allergies or misconstrue negative reactions with allergic reactions

My dad was born in 1930 and almost die of a penicillin allergy as a kid. My dad is doing great at 96 thinking he’s allergic to penicillin when maybe he never was and it was the impurities or he outgrew it. Thanks for the information!

lol anaphylaxis allergic to penicillin, augmentin, rocephin, and mushrooms. Just had an all over body hive reaction to cipro. I'm doomed. 😆

If you are allergic to Prochlorperazine (basically involuntary muscle contraction) are you more likely to be allergic to Metoclopramide? I was very annoyed in Norway they would only give me Metoclopramide when I wanted ondansetron bc I know I tolerate it.

I experience hepatotoxicity when I take Bactrim. Is this considered an allergy? It happened twice before we figured out was going on, and I haven’t taken it in like 18 years.

I tested allergic to mold twice with allergy skin testing but I’m not allergic to penicillin. I am allergic to Sulphur drugs and cephalosporin.

Thanks Dr Rubin! I just turned 65 and my mother always told me I had an anaphylactic reaction when I was 5 years old. She's gone now and I've never had penicillin since, but I'm wondering if I should probably ask my doctor to see about an allergy test. Thank you!
