@southmetropio: Your drone flight isn’t worth someone’s home or their life.  Firefighters from South Metro Fire Rescue and Deputies from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office responded to two grass fires along Interstate 25 near Castle Pines Parkway on Sunday, July 5. As the Douglas County firefighting helicopter approached to drop water on the fire, a drone was detected flying in the same airspace as the helicopter near the fire. That drone forced the helicopter to halt operations until the drone was grounded. Using technology from SMFR’s Incident Dispatch Team, @dougcosheriff Deputies quickly located the drone and its operator. Deputies cited the individual for obstructing firefighting operations. We understand the community's curiosity during an active incident, but during emergencies, every second counts. Please keep drones out of active fire zones so our teams can protect lives and property without delay. If you fly your drone, we can’t fly ours. **Think before you fly. Before flying a drone, be sure you’re following all FAA rules and have the proper licensing and required certifications.”
