Well said. I joined DSA to get involved locally with people doing good things in my community. The local chapter here does a lot of reading groups and mutual aid that I thought could help people here. I don’t think this is the end all be all by any means though.

The signature requirements are the lynchpin. If I join the dems or the gop, I only have to get like 500 signatures to get on the ballot. If I run as an independent I have to get 13000 signatures. Like what?!?

all of the things that you mentioned to be doing outside of electoral politics are all things that DSA puts tons of time and resources into. there are working groups for tenant organizing, mutual aid, union organizing, etc. electoral work is just one part. i think it’s also important to recognize that yes, the democratic party structure is not conducive to anything revolutionary; but it also isn’t like european political parties, where you can be kicked out of the party if you don’t follow the party line exactly. DSA (seems to) wants to use the democratic party as a means to an end, since there really is no other way of building political power in america. they’ve already built their membership to be the largest socialist org in US history (not per capita, but still), which gets people involved and aware of the poli-ed and other organizing work they spend so many resources doing

I think a lot of the members of the dsa feel it isn't left enough for us but find it a good place to build solidarity join in on groups have conversations and get SOMETHING done when there's not a lot you can do with out community.

I like this video, but a minor correction I'd give is that the base is not just workers. The base is essentially the productive forces, which includes labor but is not limited to it. The base also includes the means of production.
