YES! bystanders are so odd to me! If I see anything weird, I keep an eye on it and WILL say something or offer to sit next to someone even if I’m already sat. A simple “hey can I sit here:)” can help. Even eye contract and a small nod can make people realize someone is watching and on there side. 😞

In Vancouver, I feel like people are so scared to make a scene or speak to strangers. We need a culture shift, everyone should know to collectively call that shit out when it happens. I understand it’s hard to be the first one to help, I’m afraid to be physically assaulted myself as a visible minority with a physical condition. I wouldn’t hold my own well if attacked. People can be so unpredictable, using weapons especially. So it can be hard to speak up and risk your own safety if nobody else is. We’ve got to be able to trust safety in numbers, it’s sad that we can’t

Thanks, About 10 years ago, something happened to me, and in that moment of shock, I couldn’t speak English. A kind woman helped me so much, and I’ll never forget her.
