1) Defensive schemes and effort are easily the best it’s ever been. 2) Offensive schemes and talent are exponentially better than they have ever been. 3) The “interpretation” of many NBA rules, and a couple new ones, have made playing 1-on-1 basketball absolutely impossible. The gather step, defensive fouls, the lack of offensive fouls, carrying rules, and an explosion of offensive skills means you cannot guard 1 NBA player with anything less than 3 NBA defenders.

While I agree with most of your takes. The Allen take is a bad one. His plays wouldn’t make the top 20 in any given year in the 80s. His best play wouldn’t make a top 20 Dominique Wilkins play on any given year.

the game used to be way more physical and the players far more tough. the skill level has absolutely gone up but it's just the lack of interest for D that lacks today. plus add on the blatant travel and carry violations on almost every possession and it's pretty much unwatchable. if the 90s players could all travel and carry every possession they would probably look a lot closer to today's players.
