I always thought "honey" is the US default ending of any sentence spoken by or in the presence of a woman. Such an odd country. And yes, when you travel there, you get the impression that the people do mean well. Very hearty folks. But then there's also the people who seek to trivialize or even normalize things like slavery or abuse. Or the people marching down Washington DC streets with masks and Confederacy flags. Anyway, I wouldn't necessarily seek anything weird behind use of the word "honey". But then I'm an old white man, so that might be entirely my fault.
