@shanika.malcolm: This is the most important article I've written. https://shanikamalcolm.substack.com/p/defending-life-where-the-andes-kiss Right now, in Mocoa, Putumayo, Colombia, Indigenous communities and local women are standing against a massive proposed copper mine in one of the most biodiverse regions on Earth. It forced me to ask a question I can't shake... Can we save the planet by destroying it? The world is racing toward a "green transition," but if that transition is built on the same extractive mindset that gave us colonialism, patriarchy, and capitalism, have we really changed anything? Or have we simply changed what we're extracting? For centuries, ego-driven men in positions of power, backed by corrupt governments chasing profit, have treated the Earth and women as resources to be exploited. Extract from the land. Extract from Indigenous peoples. Extract from mothers. Extract from women's unpaid labor, caregiving, and emotional work, the very foundation upon which our economies have been built, yet rarely acknowledged or valued. It's the same consciousness. The same values. The same story. We've seen where it leads. I believe it's time to remember another way. A way rooted in care instead of conquest. Reciprocity instead of extraction. Life instead of profit. Maybe it's time for the mothers to lead once again. I hope you'll read this piece with an open heart. More than anything, I hope it starts a conversation we desperately need to have. https://www.gofundme.com/f/they-want-to-mine-our-sacred-territory-help-us-stop-them #Mocoa #Putumayo #Amazon #ProtectTheAmazon #EnvironmentalJustice
