I feel like they're not actually explaining it to you, but my father made me sit through this lecture many times when I was young so it's my turn now. so 1, when oil cools down it gets thicker and moves slower. but most oil these days is made to move even in freezing temperatures. 2, engine components are made of different metal alloys, so you find that they expand and contract at different rates so it's best to let them get to temperature so you don't push the car to it's limits while everything isn't working how it was designed to. 3, cold metal causes fuel to condense as oppose to vaporize, cause the engine needs it vaporized, the ECU (cars brain) pushes out more fuel to make sure there's enough vapor floating around for the engine to run. that's why its usually revving so high. then the liquid fuel that's stuck to the walls runs down the cylinder and mixes with your oil. so thats also why it's important to change your oil. so no, the car won't explode or anything, but just let it warm up.

Not a mechanic: Modern cars you don't need to "warm up" but before moving allow few seconds for oil to lubricate the engine. Bathi over time if you don't do that you may affect the life span of the engine.

Doesnt need to get warm, modern cars can build oil pressure in under 10sec , then your safe to drive

It takes about half a minute for the oil pump to lubricate the engine in modern cars. Less than a minute then drive.

oil pressure needs to rise so that piston rings don't rub roughly on dry cylinders. cylinders need to be lubricated , lube is always good, Jst lyk 4 play

my 2cent, it help with oil to flow first so it easier for libracatio, but for modern cars "synthetic oil" is used so there is no need also air and other staff are in that process that where the ECU come in to balance and make the process almost instantaneous( newer car). into ethi ayibe njalo kodwa 🤷🏿♂️

think about cooking eggs before the oil heats up. fast tracking the wear and tear. you can start and go, but take it easy before slamming the accelerator.

Modern cars do not need to warm up. However I would advise that you wait for the warning lights to go off. Especially the oil warning light(read kettle). Which is about a second or 2.

Proper lubrication and optimum working temperature happens when u wait for the car to warm up. Parts ware off quicker when u just drive off. U won't see it immediately but it accumulates

it's important to warm up your car because if your oil is not at the right level and temperature, you're basically chafing your engine components on the inside. The friction compromises your pistons , thus giving your engine a shorter lifespan.

Cars run on oil pressure, and oil is optimum when it's properly warmed up. You guys warm up ovens and oil pans before you cook but don't have the patience for your cars. Your car will last longer if you warm it up on a cold start. F1 cars also get warmed up

Depends, if it’s old yes warm it up but new ones you just need the rev counter to go down after a few seconds then you good.

It doesn't take time for the oil to pump to key components inside your engine to prevent premature engine wear, if you decide to not wait for the oil to circulate than you will prematurely damage your engine. It's all about life span basically

Thank you to everyone who took the time to comment and explain the importance of letting a car idle before driving off. I genuinely didn’t know that allowing the oil to circulate properly helps protect the engine and its components.
