@evie_brooks: The classic ‘choice without a choice’ 🙌🏼 Because some mornings, getting ready for school can feel impossible 😅 This little trick, that I learnt from the fabulous SEN mama @Charly |• Chaos Mum •| , has helped us so much 🩵 The first thing I do is try not to engage with the back and forth because, for my son, it can go on forever. Once we get into an argument, we’ll both be there all morning 😮💨 So instead of saying, ‘Put your school top on,’ I’ll give him a simple choice - the white one or the yellow one 💛 Because he still has to wear a school top but he gets to choose which one 🙏🏼 For a lot of autistic children, especially those with PDA traits, demands and feeling like they’ve lost control can be a one-way ticket to meltdown town 🚌 Giving two safe options helps him feel like he has some control over the situation, while still getting us where we need to be ❤️ I keep doing this with little things until he feels more regulated and comfortable enough for me to guide him a bit more ➡️ Don’t get me wrong, some mornings there’s still pushback and that’s completely ok. It’s not about having a perfect morning ❤️ What makes me emotional is seeing how far he’s come 🥹 Because of this, our communication has changed so much. I’m able to stay calmer, and he’s able to tell me what he needs much sooner ❤️ And to then happily brush his teeth, put his shoes on and get out of the door after this? That’s HUGE for us. These things used to end in tears for everyone ❤️🩹 If you’re in that end-of-school-year burnout with your children, I just want you to know - I see you 🥰 These weeks can feel so hard, and you’re not the only one having mornings like this 🤍 Have you ever used the ‘choice without a choice’ method? Or is there another trick that’s made your mornings a little easier? Let me know below so we can help other parents too. 👇 And follow @councilhousemama for more honest ND parenting, so you feel a little less alone. We’re all in this together ❤️

Just curious why would you give a 4 year old an iPad never mind before school? I can't fathom why so many parents are handing children devices

I narrowly avoided a situation this morning, my son is starting reception in September and he's 4 we have not used the buggy in 3 weeks I stopped using it before and he would refuse to walk to nursery and that would make my other son Late, so we went back to using the buggy and revisited it recently amd he's been doing great, this morning he started saying he didn't want to go to nursery and I thought oh God here we go he's gonna refuse so I made it a game 😂 I ended up walking him to nursery playing zombies, he was a zombie and then I was a zombie, then we changed the game and he was invisible and he kept poking me and I couldn't see who was doing it.. butttt we got to nursery no issues 😁 i won 😎
