Love how everyone is blaming tech… may have a role to play… but nothing about the soft parenting and lack of / bad parenting. She has a valid point… my parents werent glued on phones!

gentle parenting era I think has a lot to do with it. I dont mean allowing complete aggressive discipline either. but one tiny sign schools are on the parents back etc, parents just give up on any discipline at all because the judgment and risk of prosecution.

what else are teens meant to do? they have no youth clubs, parents have to work hours and hours, they can't really go out because it's expensive and not safe. it's not social media that's the issue. the social media bit is a product of the issue. the issue is in fact that family dynamics are out of the window because parents are having to work every hour they can to be able to survive. our teenagers are having to raise themselves and in their mode of survival, they are reaching foe the only thing they can... their phone! if people would just wake up and realise that teenagers need more care then what they're getting now
that's the bottom line

I would blame online gaming like ps3 when it started going online, great for some situation but you can’t beat 4 mates cramped up on a sofa/floor on a split screen

Super proud my son has a 50/50 balance of going out with his friends after school and weekends but also equally enjoys playing games while on FaceTime with them. They’d sooner be out on their bikes during the day & game of an evening. Teenagers used to be babysitters, they now need babysitting; it’s so important for them to experience life in the real world as well as enjoying their hobbies

There's been a decimation of playing fields for sports and youth clubs where teenagers could meet up safely. 1m youngsters also out of work or education and nothing being done to help them. But social media is the biggest negative factor.
