@healthy_mays: Can you relate? Walking into a room and forgetting why. Calling everything "thingy." Knowing exactly what you want to say... but the word just won't come. First things first...**You're not losing your mind.** This is one of the most common symptoms I see in women during perimenopause, and thankfully, it's usually not permanent. So, what's actually happening? 🧠 **Declining oestrogen affects your brain.** Oestrogen isn't just a reproductive hormone—it plays a huge role in memory, concentration, verbal fluency and communication. As levels fluctuate, many women notice they suddenly struggle to find words or recall names. 😴 **Poor sleep makes it worse.** Night sweats, insomnia and broken sleep reduce your brain's ability to consolidate memories and retrieve information the next day. 😰 **Stress hijacks your memory.** When cortisol is chronically elevated, your brain prioritises survival over remembering where you left your keys or the word you're trying to say. 🍽️ **Blood sugar swings = brain fog.** Skipping meals, living on caffeine or eating high-sugar snacks can leave your brain running low on the steady fuel it needs to function at its best. 🔥 **Inflammation and nutrient deficiencies matter too.** Low levels of nutrients such as omega-3 fats, magnesium, B vitamins and iron (where appropriate) can all contribute to fatigue and reduced cognitive performance. Addressing these should be based on your individual needs and, where relevant, confirmed with testing. **So what can you do?** ✔️ Prioritise quality sleep. ✔️ Eat enough protein and healthy fats to support stable blood sugar. ✔️ Manage stress and regulate your nervous system with practices like breathwork, yoga or meditation. ✔️ Include brain-supportive nutrients such as omega-3-rich foods and ensure you're meeting your needs for key vitamins and minerals. ✔️ Strength train and move your body regularly to support brain health. ✔️ If symptoms are significantly affecting your quality of life, speak to someone who can help - I specialise in helping women in perimno thrive & as a functional nutritionist, I don't just ask, "Is this menopause?" I ask, **"What's making your symptoms worse, and how can we support your body as a whole?"** Because you don't have to accept brain fog and word-finding struggles as your new normal. 💬 Tell me below... what's the funniest word you've forgotten recently? 😂 #menopause #perimenopause #functionalnutritionist #nutritionist
