Ricky Stanicky (2024) is a comedy about three lifelong friends—Dean, JT, and Wes—who invent a fake friend named Ricky Stanicky as kids to take the blame for their mistakes. As adults, they continue using Ricky as an excuse to avoid responsibilities and lie to their families and partners. When everyone insists on meeting Ricky, they hire a struggling actor named Rod (John Cena) to play the role. However, Rod becomes so convincing that everyone ends up liking "Ricky" more than the three friends, making their web of lies impossible to maintain. In the end, Dean, JT, and Wes confess that Ricky Stanicky never existed. Although their families and partners are initially hurt and angry, they eventually forgive them after they sincerely apologize and take responsibility for their actions. Rod also grows as a person through the experience, and the film ends with the message that honesty and accountability are more important than living a lie.
