He didn’t get the windows, the passing faces, the chance to be chosen with a glance and a “hey, look at him.” Instead, Lewis has been tucked away out of public view, out of sight, out of reach, out of the everyday moments where dogs get noticed and saved. And that matters more than people realize. Because in a shelter, visibility is everything… and Lewis hasn’t had it. So he waits in the back while life moves past him. Right now, he’s medically in the thick of it, an ear hematoma, a tail injury that’s bled and required bandaging, and a recent cough being treated per protocol. He’s underweight. He’s uncomfortable. But even so, staff still describe him as BAR: still bright, still aware, still showing that he is very much here, still a young dog underneath everything happening to his body. And that’s what makes this so hard. Because Lewis isn’t shutting down. He isn’t gone inside. He’s still there, still hoping in the only way a dog can, waiting for someone to finally stop, finally see him, finally choose him. But time has run out. He is now scheduled for euthanasia today at 2PM. Not because he isn’t adoptable. Not because he isn’t worth saving.
