And now, after reports that Donald Trump contacted FIFA regarding Folarin Balogun’s red-card suspension, the suspension was reportedly lifted, allowing the U.S. star to play. At some point, fans are not being paranoid—they are paying attention. Football is supposed to be the world’s game: fair, global, and bigger than politics. Yet FIFA continues to give the impression that power, money, influence, and selective morality matter more than consistency. Different rules for different countries. Different standards for different players. Different justice depending on who is asking. FIFA is not protecting football. It is damaging its credibility obviously.
