@purelychickens: Sand or wood chips? 🤔 The answer depends on your run & what you prefer as a cleaning method. 🐔 Sand works best when your run has a roof to keep rain out. When it’s dry, it’s easy to scoop like a giant litter box. You never have to shovel out all out and replace it, so if you don’t like heavy work a few times a year, sand is a good option. 🌿 Wood chips are better for uncovered runs. They handle rain much better, break down naturally over time, help reduce mud, and encourage chickens to scratch and forage. But, under a roof, they get very smelly, need shoveled out more often, and create lots of mold. The best bedding isn’t about what’s “best” overall—it’s about choosing what works for your setup.
