based on a true story of a man named Nasseri who spent 18 years at a airport in France. He was eventually able to leave the airport but returned a short time later, leaving a shelter because he became accustomed to living in the airport. He died in his early 70s from a heart attack. While some beilieve the statue in Orlando of The Sleeping man is based on him, it is infact not. The statue is merely an art work of airport flight exhausted passengers. Oddly enough, Spielberg bought the rights from Nasseri, was never mentioned his true story not even in the special features section in the dvds. Nasseri was so excited about his story becoming a film he carried a poster, though its unlikely he ever got a chance to see it in person.
