Us women wear a thousand masks in our life to get by in this patriarchal society. Masks of strength. Masks of silence. Masks of pleasing. Masks of pretending we’re okay when our hearts are quietly breaking. Over time, those masks begin to feel like our own skin, until we can no longer remember who we were before the world told us who we had to become. This ceremony was inspired by one of our beloved Belgian witch sisters, who reminded us that sometimes healing isn’t found by putting on something new… it’s found by having the courage to burn away everything that was never truly us. One by one, we spoke the stories hidden beneath our masks. We witnessed one another without fixing, without rushing, without judgment. We let the fire hold what we had carried for far too long. Then we were cleansed in sacred smoke. Next, the witch’s hat was placed upon each woman’s head, not as a costume, but as a vow. A vow to walk this world with courage. A vow to reclaim the woman beneath the mask. A vow to never again hide the witch she truly is. There is something incredibly healing about being seen exactly as you are… it’s like breaking free from chain that you’ve been bound by all your life.
