i mean... if you cant drive, you cant hold it against your partner. It's in gear incase the brakes fail, and they can fail on any car no matter the age.

If you leave yo car only by handbreak on , no wonder why theres so many accidents when car rolls down or sum 😂 leave it in first! It wont damage transmission , leaving with handbreak on can cause yo handbreak to seize (if youve driven for long time and break are hot) i always leave my car on 1st gear no matter when flat or slope it aint goin nowhere , with handbreak itll roll down soon😂
