@startarchiving: 28 years ago today, MKO Abiola died in government custody. In 1999, P.M. News reported that the U.S. intelligence community suspected the presumed winner of the June 12, 1993 election, and General Sani Abacha, the man who imprisoned him, had been assassinated, contradicting claims they died of natural causes. Thomas Friedman of The New York Times wrote, "Let's just say Abacha did not die a natural death and he did not die alone," a remark widely speculated to reference the death of MKO Abiola. He added, "The other lesson is that getting rid of one evil leader really can make a difference."
