I carried this book around in my backpack for the whole school year. I couldn’t rush through it, I’d sit in the back of a room at a time where I felt totally overwhelmed and I’d read and disappear into the long and heavy world of the goldfinch. It’s slow and almost monotonous in a way that became so comforting to me. We all carry a painting around with us, something or someone we refuse to part with because it’s all we have left connecting to us a distant time,or even the old version of ourselves.
