At my current level of understanding, I believe what I should do is increase my chances of getting lucky. For example, if I stay at home and feel sorry for myself, I reduce those chances. But by going out into the world and meeting new people, I increase my chances.

For those interested in this subject, the book Fooled By Randomness by Nassim Taleb is a good read. Also, many of the concepts presented in this video are explored in the research on cognitive bias done by Amos Tversky and Daniel Kahneman. For an easier to jump in overview of their work, The Undoing Project by Michael Lewis is a great start.
