@drjesstaylor: Psychologist Dr Jessica Taylor explains to Lisa Bilyeu why she does not use psychiatric language and the way victims of abuse are medicated, pathologised and labelled instead of supported. Full interview is over on Women of Impact on Lisa Bilyeu YT. Dr Taylor’s latest book ‘Click. Stalk. Destroy.’ is out on Thursday - but if you’re interested in this topic, try her bestselling book, ‘Sexy But Psycho’ which explores the way women and girls are pathologised and labelled when they are being abused.
My anxiety and depression suddenly healed when I became single. Stopped all meds too.

It feels like no one even knows about emotional literacy 😭 This combined with the weird trend of reactions to emotional conversations being just denial or refusal. We absolutely have to let ourselves feel our feelings so we can explain them ❤️

Absolutely spot on. Anxiety! Depression and Complex PTSD has made me worse by the words yet nobody talked about my DA and how it made me feel. Left for 10 years and still feel the same.

What if there’s genuinely nothing to be afraid of and you still panic? Happens to a lot of people too.

Anxiety is always a symptom, and should never be the diagnosis.

Absolutely, so many signs were missed that I was in danger, they diagnosed me with 'EUPD' instead. Mysteriously disappeared once I was safe!

Completely agree, too quick to jump to a pathology - humans have emotions. It’s normal. And often serves a function. Quite often people are struggling because they are having a very valid emotional or psychological response to an environmental factor/s. And one of the main problems is that if this is being identified as a mental health problem, it locates the issue with the individual and not with the circumstances they are in

I had anxiety, got away and didn’t have anxiety anymore. Sometimes it’s just circumstances. Your body is having a natural reaction

THIS🙌 Flipping the perspective on your own brain, especially after decades of complex trauma and people gaslighting, DARVO and flipping the narrative to avoid accountability, it is the only way to help pull you out of it, snatch your own power back and create new neural pathways for the synapses to flip and form new🙌🫶🫂💜🩵💙
