When I au paired I remember there was no ready to eat food and I only had sunflower seeds to eat for a whole day as I was too nervous to just start cooking. So maybe a little welcome pack- WiFi code, how to turn oven on etc

From an ex au pair, please make sure to let the kids know that they’re not to go in her room, unless she specifically invites them in, as it’s important for an au pair to get a proper break and have her own space and time away to recharge and rest 💞 the hamper you’ve made is lovely! Such a thoughtful gesture! I’d say just add snacks and drinks to that and in general ask her what she likes to eat for breakfast etc and stock those ingredients in the fridge for her 😊

As a previous au pair, I think the most important thing is to not assume she will speak to you if there is a problem. Ask her regularly how things are going, let her know she is doing a good job and treat her like another adult in the house. Make sure you and your partner are on the same page about this too and they also know how to make her feel comfortable. Another small thing is get a poster board that she can stick pictures up on, I brought pictures with me but I wasn’t allowed to stick them up anywhere

from an ex-aupair I loved it when I came into the room and I had a few pamphlets from the town I was living in and the bus plan. and my friend even got a gift card from the local coffee shop, I was so jealous 😂

A little intro sheet with info about the house (WiFi, any codes needed, mobile numbers) and a map or link to Google maps with local shops, bus stops, doctors, chemist etc. marked on it!

Yes, snacks for sure. Maybe a wee mini fridge of her own. If it was me I’d be too scared to go and just grab food out of cupboard outside of meal times etc.

I was an au pair, when I arrived the family had put photos up of my family and friends in my room and the first night they cooked me my favourite meal. It really made me feel so welcome

When I au paired the kids were allowed to go into my room whenever they wanted and would take my make up etc to play with. Make sure your kids know it’s not their space!
