And the worst part is that this narrative about "Eurocentric features" originated—if I’m not mistaken—with a Black person on Twitter who couldn't grasp how Anok Yai, with her quintessentially Black appearance (dark skin, Afro-textured hair, and "Black" features), could be considered beautiful by so many people. The dehumanization of Black women centers on masculinizing their image; that is the primary reason why their beauty is undervalued or subjected to absurd attempts at rationalization. People from West and Central Africa suffer this the most, as their phenotypic diversity and beauty are often denied. They are accused of being mixed-race (with white or Asian ancestry) or of hailing from East Africa. What hurts me the most is that, no matter how beautiful a Black woman is, there will always be nasty comments on her posts. People will always try to masculinize our image, claim we are AI, or insist that we are simply wearing heavy makeup. 🥹
