Still wonder what we could’ve had if the Targaryens took their ‘dreamers’ seriously the way they did, since a woman having those dreams was what saved them from the Doom. They could’ve been revered for so much more than just dragons smh

There were 40 dragonrider families, then regular noble houses (the Velaryon and celtigar for examples) they were a lower status dragonriding noble house, but not a lower status noble house. As those would’ve been the non dragon riding families

targaryen women going from having children in their 30s to early teens and instead of being warrior queens and respected dragon ladies they were reduced to baby machines and denied status as heirs

actually aegon I made rhaenys child in line for the throne, ignoring maegor. if they had stuck to valyrian system which we only know a little about and from volantis, the sons should of had a council with 3 main leaders balancing them out. but aegon I ruined that by giving into andal nonsense

hello are you mad? :
if they knew the dragons were linked to the women's fertility it shouldve followed two female and 1 male by their own logic. daemon/laena/rhaenyra wouldve been a good trio bookwise but I think they would've turned into female competition in the show

to be fair old valyria system is probably similar to most city in essos since most city in essos probably adopted it from them so it's not far fetched to think they had something like an archon council and since there's like 40-50 valyria family each 10 families would have one head to represent them at the council no?

Jaehaerys was a far more successful ruler than Aegon and his sisters. He inherited a fractured realm and left it at its peak, with no major wars and a high degree of stability across the Seven Kingdoms. He also introduced many important laws and significantly improved the infrastructure throughout Westeros.

You got the wrong idea but I get why you said it. They have a “singular” ruler only because of Aegon’s dream. When he dreamt of ASOIAF, he saw that the only way to stop the long night was only if Westeros was unified under A Targeryan. And then when we incorporate the customs of the First Men and the Andals who all had a great house with a singular monarch that ruled over them before Aegon, it starts to come together why there’s only one ruler of Westeros. The small council acts as a governing body that “councils” the ruler but I see where your point comes into play because at the end of the day, the ultimate choice is up to the ruler. Very multi-faceted conversation

I’m writing a what if series about a Targaryen reading about the histories and turning against his own family because he believes they’re cowards he says things like “ how could our family learn about the doom of Valeria and not tell anybody..? We just fled..?

Imo slavery was the singular thing that brought down old Valyria. They enslaved many peoples including some of the mages charged with caring for the dragons.

What they really should’ve done was bring some of the priests from Volantis over with them instead of contributing to faith of the seven.. and all they had to do was sacrificed the ones that broke the law and did harm over innocence being offered to the flames. They would’ve been just fine serving the Targaryen family because they’re source to their fire. God is inside a living breathing animal that is controlled by the Targaryens plus it would’ve helped with the dragons in general instead of having the common folk turned into dragon keepers. They had those priests being the dragon keepers….. it would’ve solved a whole lot but then again I know what the author did and how he went with it. It’s like the Roman empire converting to Christianity. Didn’t last long did it?💀

Think about it this way: If the targaryens were truly among the top 10 valyrian noble houses they couldn't have left so easily to go to Dragonstone since they probably had important bussiness to attend to (and cuz royalty can't just leave randomly like that). Then there's also the fact that they didn't even have that many dragons, like they probably had less than 5 dragons in total, since they only brought 1 dragon (Balerion, who is to be the only known targaryen dragon to hatch in Old Valyria) and a few eggs to that island. For context when ancient people from Westeros resisted valyrian occupation Old Valyria sent 300 dragons to subdue them, yes that's right 300. And targaryens also don't practice blood magic, like it even took them a few generations to figure out that if they place a dragon egg in a baby's cradle then the rider-mount bond will be stronger, which is basically beginner info when it comes to dragons if you think about it, and besides that they didn't even 100% know for sure that it was targaryen blood which makes em be able to bond with dragons, like they had a hunch but Rhynera had to test it out on her own and even then she wasn't completely sure since 99% of the times it failed (Stephen darkling got burnt by SeaSmoke, all targaryens bastards got burned by Vermithor and btw Ulf doesn't count since he sneaked away)— and they weren't even able to bring dragons back after they died out. So judging by this information House Targaryan was probably place no. 37-40/40 valyrian ruling houses. But keep in mind that there were also other noble houses, lower than those 40, who weren't dragon riders— like house Valaryon for example. Corlys the Sea Snake confirmed this when he said that his house was never a dragon riding family & they always had to make a living by being sailors. So yeha targaryens ain't shit and Daenerys was the best of them.
