A woman whose husband is accused of attempting to murder her on a Hawaii hiking trail testified he tried to inject her with a syringe and had a vial in his hand. Police did not find a syringe or vial when they searched the Pali Puka Trail on O'ahu, but Arielle Konig gave them a bag she said she found in their Maui home after leaving the hospital. Police are using the bag and its contents, which include syringes and vials, in their attempted murder case against Gerhardt Konig. Detective Tracy Spacek of the Honolulu Police Department testified about it on Wednesday when detailing his investigation and the evidence collected. The clip begins with Gerhardt's lawyer Thomas Otake asking Spacek about a lava rock that Gerhardt used to hit Arielle in the face. Two hikers who helped Arielle said they saw Gerhardt attacking her with the rock, but Otake told jurors that Gerhardt hit Arielle in self-defense after she attacked him. In cross-examination, he questioned Spacek about an officer moving the rock before an evidence specialist photographed, then asked him about the bag Arielle sent investigators from the couple's home in Maui. Gerhardt is a licensed anesthesiologist, so Otake has emphasized that the items in the bag were typical items an anesthesiologist uses on the job. This clip ends with Spacek explaining in direct-exam what was in the bag. The Konigs moved to Maui from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in 2023, with their two young sons and Gerhardt's stepson. Gerhardt worked on the island, and Arielle worked remotely in nuclear engineering. They flew to O'ahu to celebrate Arielle's birthday on March 24, 2025, and were hiking the steep, cliffside Pali Puka Trail when Arielle testified Gerhardt attacked her. The couple had been in counseling after Gerhardt discovered flirtatious texts between Arielle and a coworker months earlier.
