My parents do that too. They don’t trust anything I say or do.

In mom’s defense, you didn’t answer the why question. You answered the what. She is curious and still open to learning about different cultures. It’s her first time on this planet too

OMG! I am an Army vet and my parents would ask my non-military brother military questions.

At this point: Gentle parent call them out. "Hey mom, did you hear that I said that to you, right before you google it? Yes? Did you not believe me?" Ask and ask and ask, but stay friendly. Sometimes, the coin drops. When it does, maybe bring an example how that would feel if the roles were reversed. Ask for better communication or to maybe not ask you if they won't trust your answer.
(Assuming you have a semi-okay relationship with them where you can adress them and that is more a them being a bit quirky than doing a powerplay)

My parents do the opposite: when I visit from 2000 miles away and use my phone for directions they get personally offended. “Don’t do that! Just turn left where the Kmart used to be and take the first left after the Baumgartners driveway” like I DONT LIVE HERE I DONT KNOW WHERE THAT IS

my parents ask me a question and follow up my actual real answer with: "Oh. I don't know" Even though I JUST TOLD THEM! and they continue as if they still don't know the answer. 🥰

because of this, my default answer to anything has become a variant of "O don't know."
has stopped a LOT of questions.

You should have asked her “where do think google got that answer?” Then you would have said “ they called me!”
