@poonamk.joshi: We thought we'd be spending the 4th of July exploring San Antonio, watching fireworks, and enjoying time with family... Instead, we woke up to a strong, foul smell in our garage that had us convinced there was a gas leak. The smell was so intense that firefighters came to check it out. After inspecting everything, they found the real cause: one of my children's old scooter batteries had been left charging for too long. The overheated battery was releasing the odor. They unplugged it, moved the scooter outside, tilted it to drain some liquid, and thankfully the situation was resolved before it became something much worse. It was definitely not how we planned to start our holiday, but it was an important reminder. ⚠️ If you're a parent, take a few minutes to check old rechargeable toys, scooters, ride-on cars, and devices around your home. Don't leave aging batteries charging unattended or for longer than recommended. Sometimes a strange smell is more than "just a weird smell." At the end we did went to San Antonio and enjoyed this weekend 🥲☀️🌊 . . . . #HomeSafety #FireSafety #MomLife #FamilySafety #RechargeableBattery . . . . garage smell, strange smell, rechargeable battery, scooter battery, lithium battery, overcharging, parenting tips, home safety, fire safety, firefighter, family safety, kids scooter, rechargeable toys, mom life, Texas mom, 4th of July

batterie acid everywhere.
firefighters came.
we all had to decontaminate at school.
I had burns on my shoulders where the acid had hit me 💀

I just moved in with my grandparents for college like a month ago and the day my parents left our trash cans caught on fire from what we believe was a battery, and bc we live in an hoa the trash cans are supposed to be up against the house. We were lucky and caught it before it did to much damage to the house but it’s so scary to think abt. Keep ur trash cans away from the house, and don’t put batteries in the trash can, take them to a recycling center if you can, or please wait until trash day to put them out there

everyone’s mentioning ‘over reacting’ but they must be missing the part where it was assumed to be a gas leak? 😭 that is 100% an emergency. it will in fact lead to death.

Seems like these kids toys that need big batteries are not safe, I wonder how many fires these have started this year. I have seen like 10 stories and I bet there is a lot more.
