Centrals Power edit | World War I (1914–1918), also known as the Great War, was one of the most destructive conflicts in human history and the first large-scale industrial war. It involved most of the world’s great powers, divided into two major alliances: the Allies (or Entente Powers), including France, the United Kingdom, Russia, Italy (from 1915), and later the United States (from 1917); and the Central Powers, primarily Germany, Austria-Hungary, the Ottoman Empire, and Bulgaria. The war began in July 1914 after the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria-Hungary in Sarajevo. This event triggered a chain reaction of alliances and mobilizations across Europe. Within weeks, the conflict escalated into a full-scale world war. Germany implemented the Schlieffen Plan, invading Belgium and attempting to quickly defeat France before turning east to Russia. This plan failed after the First Battle of the Marne, leading to a long and brutal stalemate on the Western Front. On the Western Front, warfare became defined by trench systems stretching from the North Sea to Switzerland. Soldiers on both sides lived in horrific conditions, facing artillery bombardments, machine-gun fire, gas attacks, and constant danger. Major battles such as Verdun, the Somme, and Ypres resulted in massive casualties but little territorial gain. The war of movement had turned into a war of attrition, where victory depended on which side could endure the longest. On the Eastern Front, the war was more fluid, with large offensives and counteroffensives across vast territories. Germany achieved significant victories, such as the Battle of Tannenberg, while Austria-Hungary struggled with internal weaknesses and multiple fronts. Russia suffered heavy losses and eventually collapsed into revolution in 1917, leading to its withdrawal from the war after the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk in 1918. The war also expanded beyond Europe. The Ottoman Empire fought in the Middle East, the Caucasus, and Gallipoli, where Ottoman forces successfully resisted Allied attempts to capture the Dardanelles. In Africa and Asia, colonial troops were drawn into the conflict, turning it into a truly global war. Technological innovation played a major role in World War I. It saw the first widespread use of machine guns, heavy artillery, poison gas, tanks, aircraft, and submarines. These innovations dramatically increased the scale of destruction and changed the nature of warfare forever. In 1917, the entry of the United States on the side of the Allies shifted the balance of power. American industrial and military strength provided fresh resources and manpower. At the same time, the Central Powers were weakening due to blockade, resource shortages, and internal unrest. By 1918, the Central Powers were collapsing. Germany launched a final offensive in the spring but failed to break Allied lines. The Allied counteroffensive, known as the Hundred Days Offensive, pushed German forces back. Austria-Hungary disintegrated due to ethnic tensions, and the Ottoman Empire and Bulgaria surrendered. Germany signed an armistice on November 11, 1918, ending the war. The consequences of World War I were enormous. Around 16–20 million people died, including both military and civilian casualties, and many more were wounded. Entire regions of Europe were devastated economically and socially. The Treaty of Versailles (1919) imposed harsh penalties on Germany, contributing to political instability that would later help lead to World War II. World War I also reshaped the global map. Empires such as Austro-Hungarian, Ottoman, Russian, and German collapsed. New countries emerged in Eastern Europe and the Middle East, but many borders were unstable. The war also led to major political changes, including the rise of communism in Russia and the growth of nationalist movements worldwide. #ww1 #edit #germany #History #ukraine

Meet Phoenix 🐶 He doesn’t understand why no one stops for him. Every day, he watches people walk past—hoping this will be the moment someone sees him, really sees him. His tail gives a small wag each time, his eyes quietly asking, “Is it me today?” But the footsteps keep moving, and the hope fades just a little more. He’s not loud. He doesn’t push to the front. He just waits… gentle, patient, and full of love he’s never had the chance to give. Phoenix isn’t broken. He’s just been overlooked. All he’s ever wanted is a home. A person. A place where he doesn’t have to wonder if he matters. Maybe you’re the one who finally stops. 🐾💔We are in Bakersfield CA #adoptdontshop#fosteringsaveslives #adopt #dogsofinstagram #.
