I just reacted to this incredible video by the queen herself, Jameela Jamil , and honestly... it was a masterpiece. One point she made really stayed with me: If women were naturally submissive, why has society spent centuries using culture, religion, tradition, and social expectations to convince women that they should be? As an African woman, that question hit home. Growing up, I can’t count the number of times I was told that a “good woman” is obedient, submissive, and knows her place. Not because those qualities came naturally, but because they were constantly reinforced. This isn’t about men versus women or who is superior. It’s about questioning the stories we’ve inherited and asking whether they’re rooted in nature or in generations of social conditioning. The conversations we have around womanhood matter because they shape how girls grow up seeing themselves and what they believe they’re allowed to become.
