@farzanasellstoronto: Making $150K a year and still broke? 😳 Let's talk about the $900K house… Everyone thinks a bigger paycheque means a bigger house. But here's what nobody tells you 👇 The bank approving you for a mortgage does NOT mean that mortgage fits your life. That $900K dream home in Durham also comes with: 🏠 A bigger mortgage 💸 Higher property taxes — Durham property taxes are no joke 🔧 Repairs and maintenance 💡 Higher utilities 📈 Rising costs of everyday life 🚗 Two car payments because Durham requires a car And suddenly that $150K salary doesn't feel like $150K anymore. This is how people become "house rich" but cash poor. The goal isn't to impress people with the house you bought… The goal is to build a life you don't need to financially recover from. Buy the home you can comfortably afford today so you have options tomorrow. 🔑 Because the BEST house is the one that lets you sleep peacefully at night. ❤️ Thinking about buying in Durham or the GTA? Let's find the home that matches YOUR goals — not just your approval letter. Still a nice home. A house is a savings account. Don’t worry and push on

I & my partner at 28 bought a 950k house in Seaton last year. Even at 210k combined house hold income, it can get tight. Cant take 3/4 vacations a year anymore like we did, but with some lifestyle changes are it’s possible. I prefer it over the 2.2k we paid on rent for a shoe box apartment in Vaughan before this.

Houses are not investments. This rhetoric needs to stop immediately.

its a very simple formula . Buy revenue generating properties in areas you can pay cash. rent where you want to live. no 1m house in vancouver rents for what the mortgage , property tax and maintence would cost you

Etobicoke property taxes are no joke. Ours are just under 30 k a year. Like taxes on property you already own and paid double taxes to buy, all paid with after taxed dollars 😭😭😭

we bought a fixer upper in Durham 545k thankfully my husband can do most of it himself but it was not so much work that we couldn't live in it for a long time. yes it's stressful but an investment as the neighborhood is amazing and all other houses sell for way higher. that was worth it vs having an insane mortgage payment we couldn't do. we qualified for much more technically but I dint want to be poor from the payments.

Don’t forget that we pay the highest taxes in North America in Durham. For my shitty little bungalow.

We make just under 300k and comfortably afford a 1.2m house. With about. A 1/3 of our income going to expenses, saving and spending each

Go back 10 years compare your taxes vs salary and increase, not much has changed except the taxes.

If you have a crap down-payment, you will be living paycheck to paycheck. Prepare and plan.

If you buy a house with a pool it's almost a free pool. Pools don't raise the price much. At least nothing close to putting a new pool in.
